My mom is in town until Thursday visiting.
Before she arrived we discussed some of the places we would take her and agreed on three important excursions.
1. Farmers Market
2. Oregon coast
3. Forest Park
First of three down, and one more to go - we're waking up early tomorrow morning to hike a Forest Park trail.
Yesterday was Sunday and we drove to Cannon Beach, a sweet coast town.
We couldn't have picked a nicer day to go. The sky was bluer than blue with not a cloud to be found. The temperature was moderate, warm in the sun.
It was a fabulous way to spend a Sunday.
We reserved a Honda Element from 11-7. The drive took about an hour and a half. Ella slept the whole way there and the whole way back (how lucky are we).
Redwood came and had more of a blast than the four of us put together. She ran and ran and ran. Jumped in the water. Chased other dogs. Fetched sticks, sniffed rocks, you name it. Today, she wanted nothing more than to curl up in a ball on her bed. Sleepy and sore.
Haystack rock (see picture - it's a rock that looks like a gigantic haystack) was bigger than big. It was enormous! There were seagulls flying in circles around it and perched sporadically along it's face.
And the waves...it was a wavy day. Each crashing swell threw mist into the air which made it look as though a thin fog was hovering above the surface. It was a constant mist.
Our walk was long and our legs grew sore. We saw sea stars, anemones, clams and collected one perfect sand dollar.
I am feeling so grateful for this entire experience and am so glad that my mom could be here for one of my Oregon "first-time" moments.
Enjoy the pictures!
Katie
So very beautiful! You are never going to want to come back here to cold, dreary Michigan!
